Paris subway - Metro map

Subway in Paris is the most efficient (and the cheapest) way to go from a point to another. 14 lines serve the city. If you stay for 2 or 3 days and plan to visit many monuments and attractions pay for an unlimited pass. If not buy a pack of 10 tickets (14.5€). The city center is safe and very few problems have been reported in the subway. Metro - subway trains run every day from 5.30am to 1am. After 1am a night bus service is operated. Yet the number of routes from central Paris to the outer areas including airports is limited. Central Paris is rather small (about 10km in diameter) and distances between one Metro stop to another are rarely more than a 5-10 minute walk. The RATP web site offers an excellent tool (in English or French) to assist in planning your route(s) throughout Paris and its suburbs.
